I help students develop mastery in English: the ability to read closely and critically, and the ability to write incisively, with clarity and voice.
I hold an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, a BA in English from Haverford College and Oxford University, and a Cambridge University CELTA certification.
Over the last twenty years, I've taught university composition and worked with dozens of students at the most prestigious schools in New York and Montreal, shaping their development as readers and writers, and guiding them through the college application essay writing process.
My students have gained admission to Columbia, Cornell, NYU, U Penn, McGill, and other top universities.
Writing isn't a simple skill—it's a dynamic process. Writers must balance two competing demands: clarity (what the reader needs) and revelation (what the writer wants to say). When this balance breaks down, students get stuck.
I work one-on-one to diagnose where a student's process has broken down and restore it. Often that means easing up; almost always it means strengthening the internal editor—when the time is right. But the goal is always the same: to help students stand with confidence inside the writing process and manage it themselves.
